Context in Conflict: Identity, History Are Always in the Room
Effective conflict resolution is more than "just" communication skills and the tools we use to generate movement. Yes, we are trained conflict resolution specialists. We are also people who work with people. We can't fully compartmentalize our experiences to offer bare neutrality. And each client has an entirely unique mix of demographics, familial history, identity and outlook.
What can we do to remain open and present when the mediation room is so packed?
Context in Conflict is a workshop for conflict resolvers and direct service providers, designed to start meaningful dialogue around how issues of race, class, gender, generational trauma and history weave themselves into our work. Through activities, small group work, role plays, and frank, respectful discussions, we'll:
- Explore the assumptions we make about each other and ourselves;
- Dive into the elephants that crowd the room, brought in by practitioners and participants alike; and
- Utilize basic conflict coaching tools for self-reflection about our practice, and as a check-in tool before each session.
Date and Time: Saturday, December 2, 2017, 9am-5pm. Location: Brooklyn Heights. Address provided to registrants
Refreshments: Breakfast (coffee/bagels/fruit) & snacks will be provided. Lunch is on your own.
Registration fee is $225. Refunds up to 7 days before event. Training limited to 20 participants.
